The program provides Sailors a one-time opportunity to transition from active-duty to the Individual. PROGRAM APPLICANTS MAY APPLY FOR ARP WITH A REQUEST TO DELAY INITIAL PAYMENT AND ALL SUBSEQUENT ANNIVERSARY PAYMENTS UNTIL CAREER INTERMISSION IS COMPLETE. Military policies are expected to generally implement and amplify statutory requirements and DoD policy. The United States Army offers Career Intermission Program opportunities to both officers and enlisted as well as qualifying members of the Guard and Reserve. The Career Intermission Program (CIP) allows Sailors to take a sabbatical from the Navy. DoD PolicyĭODI 1327.07 implements and amplifies statutory requirements. Members are not considered for promotion during the inactive period. The member and dependents are entitled to medical and dental care as though on active duty for a period of more than 30 days. Special and incentive pays are suspended during the inactive period, but the member is entitled to basic pay at the rate of two-thirtieths of the rate to which otherwise entitled. A member is obligated to provide two months of active service for each month in the inactive period. A written agreement between the service member and the Service Secretary is required and the arrangement may be terminated at the discretion of the Service Secretary. The Career Intermission Program allows Officers and enlisted Sailors the ability to transfer out of the active component and into the Individual Ready. Code § 710: Service during this period does not count toward retirement or computation of retired pay. This provision, enacted as part of the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act, allows regular and reserve members to enter an inactive status for up to three years to meet personal or professional needs.
